The City of Nashville and The Tennessee Tribune welcome all 200-plus members of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) for their annual convention in Music City.
Many years prior to moving to Nashville, this writer had a very long and enduring relationship as a columnist with the historical newspaper organization.
From 1993 – 2002, I wrote an entertainment feature column called THE SCOOP. I was so proud and honored that the majority members of the NNPA were gracious enough to carry the column, which featured celebrity profiles, and coverage of various entertainment events that took place throughout the country. One of my favorite assignments was covering the O.J. Simpson trial!
I was actually covering it for the National Enquirer but it was more than enough information to also share with my NNPA readers too. It was such a delight to chat weekly with the various NNPA editors who carried the column, as they would often connect me with various entertainment newsmakers in their cities. My fi rst interview with Gerald Levert took place because one of the editors of the Call and Post newspaper in Cleveland, OH made arrangements for me to chat with Gerald exclusively. And of course it was always a thrill to attend one of the NNPA conferences, whether it was the winter or summer confab, it’s always a time for learning, networking and having a great time.
I will always have fond memories of my years as an NNPA columnist and I would like to personally welcome these prolific publishers to our great city of Nashville!
