GQ magazine voted him Man of the Year but on last Friday night superstar Justin Timberlake was definitely the “man of the night” as he brought his 20/20 Experience World Tour to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. And what an experience it was. The sold-out show featured opening Canadian recording artist The Weekend, best known for his singles “Kiss Land” and “Live For.”
Timberlake, who’s a Memphis, TN native made his hometown state proud, as he and his bevy of bad n’ bodacious dancers easily danced, crooned, boogied and glided thru a nearly three hour set, featuring some of his biggest hits, including: “Cry Me A River,” (featuring some impressive choreography); “Future Sex/Love Sounds,” “Holy Grail” (recent song with Jay Z); “Like I Love You,” “Murder,” “Suit & Tie,” “SexyBack” and “Mirrors.” And just in case anyone had forgotten that Timberlake is more than just a song and dance man but is equally as gifted as a musician, JT proved to be the master showman that he really is, when he sat down at a baby grand piano to accompany himself on the song “Until the End of Time” (which originally featured Beyonce). And if his own stylish hits weren’t enough, Timberlake paid homage to two of music’s greatest showmen of all time, Elvis and Michael Jackson, as he performed his own rendition of “Heartbreak Hotel” and “ Human Nature.”
Dressed in his now classic black and white attire, along with his equally sharp dressed band, The Tennessee Kids, Timberlake had the crowd on their feet, dancing to his fan favorite “TKO.” But the mega-star clearly hasn’t forgotten his Tennessee roots, as he acknowledged his love for Pucketts Grocery Store and Restaurant’s greens. Who could blame him? Their meat loaf is equally as tasty with those greens.
The 20/20 Tour is an amazing show that’s worth whatever it takes to get a ticket, which may be a little difficult. The tour rolls on into the New Year, ending in August 2014 but according to JT’s website, most of the shows are already sold out. And fans who were at the Bridgestone Arena show can totally understand why.
