Congratulations to Gabriel Maynor-Faulcon who was named USTA Tennessee’s “2012 Sportsman of the Year” for his many contributions to tennis in Tennessee. He was honored and presented the award at the USTA Tennessee Awards Luncheon on Saturday, February 9, 2013.
Gabriel Maynor-Faulcon, 13 years old, enjoys tennis and began lessons at a very early age. Under the guidance of Coach Joe Goldthreate, a member of the Professional Tennis Registry for more than 27 years, along with other renowned coaches including,Tom Gorman, former United States Davis Cup Team Captain and Director of the LaQuinta Tennis Resort in California, Gabriel has competed in many Junior USTA level tournaments.
He recently accepted an invitation to represent Tennessee in the 2012 Bullfrog USTA Southern Junior Cup, where his team won the first place Bronze Medal and he received the Sportsmanship Award. He also represented Tennessee in the Southern Championships for the Boys 10s and 12s in Lexington, South Carolina and Cary, North Carolina. Gabriel has won singles and doubles titles in the American Tennis Association Nationals.
When Gabriel is not on the court competing, he enjoys hitting with his brother, Gary; spending time with his parents; and playing with his dog, “Justice” and favorite horse, “Missy”. Gabriel is a straight “A” student at the University School of Nashville. There, he is a member of the concert band – playing both saxophone and piano – and a member of the middle school varsity track team.
Gabriel sincerely believes that all junior tennis players should not only perform exceptionally on the court, but should
also excel academically and be an active participant in their community.
