NASHVILLE, TENN – On April 26, 2014 more than 600 Comcast employees, their families and friends spent their day off giving Jere Baxter Middle School a makeover. The volunteers created a walking trail, built a concession stand, painted classrooms, built picnic tables and landscaped the front of the school.
Charisse Lillie, the Vice President of Community Investment at Comcast and President of the Comcast Foundation, flew in from the corporate headquarters in Philadelphia to help. At the end of the day, Ms. Lillie presented Principal Corey Walker with a $20,000 check to fund additional improvements and programs at Jere Baxter Middle School.
Mayor Karl Dean and Congressman Jim Cooper were among the officials who came out to thank the Comcast employees and other volunteers for giving their day to a local school.The partnership between Jere Baxter Middle School and Comcast began three years ago when employees began mentoring students through Comcast’s Beyond School Walls Program.
Because of that partnership, Comcast chose Jere Baxter as the location of its Comcast Cares Day project in Nashville this year. In its 13th year, Comcast Cares Day is the largest corporate volunteer effort held on one day in the U.S.This year, more than 80,000 Comcast and NBC Universal volunteers participated in more than 700 projects around the globe, including the project at Jere Baxter.
