High School All Star Game, More Than Just a Game
NASHVILLE (June 12, 2014) – The Scott & Harriet Wallace Family Foundation will be hosting the First Annual Scott C. Wallace All Star Weekend. The event will take place this Saturday, June 14th at Maplewood High School in Nashville and it will feature a girls and boys all star game, a three point contest and a dunk contest. Since it is Father’s Day Weekend, a Father of the Year will also be honored. The organizers hope the community will support this event. All proceeds go to a scholarship fund that will be awarded later this summer to a deserving Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools boy and girl. Also, some local college coaches and recruiters will be on hand.
“We are extremely excited about this event,” said Wallace Foundation President Harriet Vaughan-Wallace. “Scott has done so much for the youth of Nashville and his desire is to showcase their talent in front of college recruiters so they can go to further their education. Some can’t be here for various reasons so we will be videoing the festivities, compiling a recruiters’ guide and allowing them to access information about each player. What’s really exciting is there have been players from other states that have asked could they also be added to the database and we will oblige. We have some exciting celebrity coaches, referees and judges lined up. We anticipate it being a fun time.”
Judge Rachel Bell, a former local basketball star that played for Auburn University and the University of Memphis, was the first to sign on to coach. Judge Bell also said she would don her gym shoes and put herself in the game. Hillwood High School Assistant Principal Cherielle Hughes-Jefferson will coach the other girl’s team. Ms. Hughes-Jefferson is an avid Memphis Grizzle fan. The former principal at Brick Church Middle School in Nashville has been a beacon of light in the Nashville community. She was also influential in helping organize her students to get NBC News’ Brian Williams to speak at Hillwood’s graduation last month.

In the boy’s game former college teammates from Trevecca Nazarene University will be coaching against each other. Mt. Calvary in Madison, TN. Pastor Sandy McClain and Dirty Dozen Mentoring Group President Avery Patton will show off their coaching skills. As teammates they combined for a 49-12 record in two seasons leading the Trojans to their first NAIA National Tournament. McClain and Patton have both been inducted into Trevecca’s Hall of Fame.
“We are proud to have some great celebrity coaches,” said Vaughan-Wallace. “We looked for people that have made a strong impact in the city. These four have touched many lives especially the youth. Judge Bell and I were teammates back in middle school. She is still as intense as she was back then. Chirelle and I have worked together on projects in the past. She shows love for her students and is a great influence. I am excited to see Pastor Sandy and Avery go at it. That should spark some good humor. We have some surprises for referees and judges. You will have to come out and see.”

Indiana Star Pitches to Keep Dream Alive: Part 2
Venom’s Reed Grabs Player of the Week
NASHVILLE (June 10)- Nashville Venom kicker Christian Reed was named the Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week by the Professional Indoor Football League for games played in Week 11. Reed, who joined the team in Week 8, converted 9 of 10 PATs and kicked four Unos in the 73-39 victory over the Georgia Fire. An Uno is worth one point when a kicker splits the uprights during a kickoff. Since Reed has joined the Venom (7-2) the team has gone 4-0. This week Reed had a new holder, Jordan Jolly because his regular one Corry Stewart was out with an injury.
“I am honored to get this award,” said Reed. “There are a lot of great kickers in this league so to receive this is awesome. My goal is to get better every week.” Hop” (James Frazier) always makes clean snaps. Corry and Jordan do a fantastic job in holding. All I have to do is swing my leg. Scoring over 70 points gave me a lot of opportunities to kick. The guys kept scoring so I just had to keep kicking. I try to get touchbacks every time I kick. I am a soccer player so I try to avoid getting tackled. I appreciate this opportunity. I am having a blast.”
The 13 total points that Reed scored is a PIFL season high for kickers in a game this season. For the season Reed is 3 of 5 on FG attempts, 30-32 on extra points and has six Unos.
Snake Bites:
- For the second week in a row an offensive lineman was named Player of the Game by the team. In Week 10 it was Center Chris Thompson. In Week 11 former Antioch High School standout B.J. Taylor won it.
- Nashville native Corry Stewart missed his first game of the season due to injury. In Week 10 he suffered a lower body injury while making a diving interception. Because he is also the holder on kicks, he showed heart by continuing to hold. He also brought water to the team during timeouts. Stewart was replaced by Lebanon, TN. native Kenny Walton. Walton made two tackles in his debut with the Venom.
- Hendersonville, TN. native Christian Reed was a guest on Tribune Radio’s Venom Injection Show. Reed also agreed to talk NHL and World Cup on the weekly Tribune Radio Sports Talk Show Bench Press.
