Vanderbilt’s Jim Fraser to lead citizen discussion

NASHVILLE—NashvilleNext will host a Housing and Gentrification Community Conversation on Monday, June 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Martin Professional Development Center (2400 Fairfax Avenue).

“As we plan for the next 25 years, we must ensure that Nashville remains an inclusive, welcoming city for a wide range of households,” said Rick Bernhardt, Metro Planning Department executive director. “Our neighborhoods are having these conversations now, and we need to listen to what they’re saying.”

Jim Fraser, an associate professor at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College specializing in housing and urban policy, will lead an in-depth discussion about how to shift from gentrification and displacement to revitalization and inclusion. Attendees will work within small groups to address problems and possible solutions regarding housing affordability and accessibility.

Fraser outlines the themes of the discussion in a short video on NashvilleNext’s YouTube channel.
