Metro Week Five Game of the Week
Burros Dominates, Stays Unbeaten
By McKinley Young
The WTNTribune Radio Sports Game of the Week featured two teams of the top teams in Metro. The #1 ranked Hillsboro Burros dominated the #8 Cane Ridge Ravens 35-12 on a beautiful night for football at Cane Ridge. The Burros offense moved the ball up and down the field most of the night, while the defense also was in command. Hillsboro’s junior defensive end Malcolm Swann was named one of the WTN Tribune Sports Radio Players of the game. Swann had seven tackles, two sacks, two deflections, a forced fumble and a fumble return for 23 yards. After the game he gave credit to his bookend defensive lineman Kyle Phillips.
“Playing on the oppsite side of Kyle makes the game easier for me because it gives me more one on one opportunity to make plays,” Swann said.

The Burros defense held the Ravens to 247 yards of total offense. Most of those yards coming off of two big pass plays of 70 yards apiece by QB Tyler Caruthers and WR Derrick Tucker on both plays.
The Burros offense was rolling most of the night. Co-WTNTribune Radio Player of the Game, senior QB Michael Hughes of Hillsboro went 14-23 250 yards and two touchdowns. Hughes also rushed for 31 yards and a touchdown.
“The game plan was to run the ball more than we passed,” said Hughes a Tennessee State University commit. Their defense dictated what we did so we were able to pass the ball more.”

Hughes received plenty of help from his supporting cast. Senior Vincent Perry had 142 yards of total offense, including a 67 yard touchdown reception from Hughes.
Cane Ridge did have a few bright spots as Tucker had 161 yards receiving and a touchdown. the Raven defense was led by sophomore Noah Bayless who had 12 tackles, junior Sampson Bradley added 10 tackles, and senior Preston Terry had eight.

Middle School Profile
Each week we will profile a local middle school student from Middle Tennessee. This week we are profiling Goodpasture Christian Middle School 8th grader Ammon Turner. Ammon led his team in points as a 6th grader and was named the school’s Offensive Player of the Year. He sat out last season but was still named one of the school’s “Dirty Dozen Players to Watch”. This year he plays both wide receiver and defensive back for the Cougars. Ammon is the son of Metro Policer Sergeant Toney Turner and Rita Roberts-Turner. Below are some of his off the field accomplishments:
— A Honor Roll and Principal’s List
–Recognized as a Duke University youth scholar in 2014
–Accepted to Vanderbilt’s summer youth academy in 2014
– Volunteers with the Metro Black Police Officer’s Association by delivering Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to needy families each year
