COLUMBIA, Tenn.-The Columbia State Community College Chargers (13-4) ran out to a 50-21 halftime lead then cruised to a 103-38 victory over the Martin Methodist University Redhawks Junior Varsity team. Seven Chargers led by T.J. Cromer’s 17 points scored in double figures as Columbia State led from wire to wire. Jamonte Graham (Father Ryan High School) added 15 points. Matt Brown scored 12 and Blake Johnson scored 10. Three Chargers recorded double-doubles. T.J. Dunans once again filled up the score sheet scoring 11 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out 11 assists. Immanuel Griggs scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Antoine Williams scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The undersized center received the most praise from his coach after the game.

“That’s what I expect out of Antoine. He is an effort guy,” said Charger Head Coach Penny Collins. “He has been pressed into service because we have three 6’8 guys out. T.J. has really better his game lately. He did miss about three from point-blank range and he went 1-8 from the three-point line. If he is on he would have scored at least 25.                                                                                                                                                    -15-matt-brown605AAFCDB9E0

Jamonte is battle tested. I have known him since he was a little kid so he knows what I expect out of him. Blake, Matt and A.J. Dodd (nine points) have to keep giving us a lift off of the bench from the guard position. Once our bigs get back, Immanuel and Antoine will still be called upon. This is a team and for us to reach our goals we will have to work together. All in all I am happy about our effort tonight. We are excited to get back into conference action on Saturday.”

Justin Pride added 10 assists. Graham and he also led the team with four steal apiece. The Chargers struggled to start the second half but went on a 42-8 run in the final 12:56 in the game. The run was keyed by a stifling defense that forced easy lay-ups.

“This is a new year and we are ready to make a statement,” said Williams. “My teammates have been talking to me and it has given me confidence. I usually play out on the wing but mixing up inside doesn’t bother me. Our goal is to go back to Kansas City. We want to keep putting our foot on the gas. We had fun tonight but trust me, we are all business.”

The Chargers will be back in action with a home game this Saturday versus Jackson State Community College. Game time is 4 p.m.
