Newspaper and journalists bring candidates and community together.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tribune and The Nashville Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) presents “Pancakes and Politics: Meet Nashville’s Mayor Candidates”. The forum will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at The Cal Turner Family Center, located at 1005 21st Avenue North on the Meharry Medical College campus.
The purpose of the event is to allow the community a chance to be introduced to the seven candidates running for mayor.
The candidates participating in the forum include:
- Megan Barry, Metropolitan Councilwoman At-Large
- Charles Robert Bone, Attorney
- David Fox, Former Metro School Board Chairman
- Bill Freeman, Real Estate Executive
- Howard Gentry, Criminal Court Clerk
- Jeremy Kane, Charter School Founder
- Linda Eskind Rebrovick, Business Executive
Tennessee Tribune Publisher Mrs. Rosetta Miller-Perry believes that mayoral forums such as this are important for an ever-growing diverse population. “Nashville is now a multicultural city with many ethnic groups,” explained Mrs. Miller-Perry. “While I am happy with the qualification and experience of all 7 candidates, they must realize if a coalition of minorities vote as a bloc they will determine who becomes the next mayor.”
Members of The Nashville Association of Black Journalists will ask questions to the candidates along with a limited amount of questions taken from the floor.
Emmy Award winning Vicki Yates of NewsChannel 5 will moderate the forum.
Jason Luntz, President of NABJ, is excited about the opportunity for diversity to become a part of the discussion. “One of the factors that makes Nashville such a great city is the melting pot is has become,” Luntz said. “As an African-American I feel it is important to see where the candidates stand on the issue of inclusion.”
Breakfast will be served at 9:00 am, with the panel beginning at 9:45 am. Tickets will be available at the door for $20.00 or can be purchased online at pancakesandpolitics.eventbrite.com.
