For 15 years, Hot City Entertainment has launched the music careers of many talented musicians in the mid-south. “We’re giving these young well-deserving artists the opportunity to be seen and heard. That’s something you don’t see a lot of recording companies and record companies doing,” said Joseph Fulton, founder of Hot City Entertainment. “I feel like Memphis is a hot city and it is on the rise again for music.”
Fulton is no stranger to music. The Memphis native is a talented musician who has jammed with legends live on stage throughout the decades. He is skilled on drums, keyboards, bass and electric guitar. The musician has played with The Bar-Kays as a fill-in several times over the years. He also played behind Rufus Thomas and Dennis Edwards, formerly of The Temptations.
He plays music by ear but also reads music fluently. “Being that I’m an old school musician, we’ve lost a lot of the old music that we used to have.” Fulton has an eye for potential and spends the year searching the city for unsung talent. “We go to Beale Street and clubs. We go around the city doing a talent search. We use radio and television to advertise and capture those new up and coming artists.”
