NASHVILLE, TN — The Tau Lambda Chapter Education Foundation of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. celebrated 34 years at its Annual Scholarship Luncheon held on December 6 at the Nashville Marriott Hotel. The Keynote Speaker
was Mark S. Tillman, the 34th General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Over 400 supporters and men of Alpha gathered to celebrate the 108th year of the founding of the fraternity, to support the foundation’s mission, and to recognize the scholarship recipients. The occasion was a reminder of the undeniable importance of education for our youth.
The 2014-2015 scholarship recipients are:
Abdullahi Muhina, Austin Peay University; Antonio Butler, The University of Tennessee; Jazon Hayes, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Jaron Hayes, Tennessee State University; and Myles Oliver, The University of San Francisco.
Scholarship supporters help Alpha Phi Alpha make a decisive difference in the lives of young people.
Among the Alpha brotherhood, two members were honored for exceptional achievements in their respective careers: Solomon C. Westbrook, Jr., chemist, who began working at Cornell Aeronautical Laboratories (Bell Labs), one of the first
blacks to do so, and later with Lucidol Chemical Corporation, where he was largely responsible for the company’s very successful development of chemicals and processes to stabilize peroxides; and Rahn K. Bailey, MD, professor of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Executive Director of the Lloyd Elam Mental Health Treatment Center at Meharry Medical College, and the immediate past president of the National Medical Association.
