NASHVILLE, TN — “Let Freedom Sing!” is a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the positive impact of the civil rights movement on Middle Tennessee. Free and open to the public, the 2015 celebration will take place 7p.m. January 18, at Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

The concert will celebrate the power of music to build community, as the Nashville Symphony, Celebration Chorus, Celebration Youth Chorus and Sphinx Competition winner Xavier Foley will perform spirituals, popular songs and classical music honoring the triumphs of the civil rights movement.

The event’s organizers are proud to partner with the Civil Rights Collection of the Nashville Public Library to provide inspiring images of Nashvillians who risked their lives to make this community a better place.

Show up at 6 pm and enjoy a pre-concert performance in the East Lobby sponsored by the National Museum of African American Music. Nashville-based saxophonist Willé and pianist James Dunn will perform music that inspired Martin Luther King Jr. and sustained the entire civil rights movement.

The public’s support of “Let Freedom Sing!” gives people in Nashville the opportunity to make a powerful statement about our community through music. All donations to the Nashville Symphony’s Annual Campaign to support the 2015 “Let Freedom Sing!” celebration will be used to compensate our world-class musicians for their services.

The Nashville Symphony is your orchestra, and we hope you will play a role in making this special evening a reality.
